Personalised test experience

These days having extra flexibility in our lives is important. IELTS Online enables you to take your IELTS Academic test from the comfort of your own home or private space.

All you need is a Windows or Mac operating system, a stable internet connection, and a well-lit private space, and you will be good to go!

Assesses all four skills

Just like the IELTS Academic test taken in a test centre, IELTS Online assesses your English-language proficiency across four key skills: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. On your test day, an IELTS invigilator will monitor the Listening, Reading and Writing tests online ensuring the high security standards set by IELTS and trusted by recognising organisations are maintained.

Your Speaking test will be face-to-face, online via a video call, with an IELTS examiner. You are more likely to take the Speaking test first, followed by Listening, Reading and Writing.

How IELTS Online works

You will be able to take IELTS Online anywhere: as long as it is a well-lit private room with a stable internet connection with no disturbances. You will need a laptop or desktop computer with the right hardware and software installed. Your microphone and camera must be on for the duration of the test.

Prior to your test you will need to download and install Inspera Exam Portal (IEP) and do some pre-system checks. Detailed instructions will be emailed to you once you sign up. You will also be required to take a photo of yourself and your identification document which will be cross-checked before you begin your test.

Before your IELTS Online Speaking test begins, you will enter a waiting room and a friendly examiner will let you in. Your listening, reading and writing sections are taken together. Once you commence your test, your browser will be locked and you won’t be able to access anything other than the test platform.
